Although Giorgio Armani is perhaps most famous for his menswear collections, which have redefined the concept of how men can look. The masculine lines of Armani suits came to define the clean and straight edged look of the 1980s man, and have had a massive influence on fashion ever since.
Giorgio Armani himself was born in 1934, and worked his way up from a job as a window dresser in an Italian fashion boutique to a position as a lead designer at the Nina Cerruti label. Armani’s designs for the Cerruti label were amongst the most popular lines ever created at the fashion house, and demand for them was so great that by 1974 he was ready to strike out on his own, and in collaboration with his partner Sergio Galeotti he set up the Giorgio Armani design house.
By the 1980s, his menswear lines had taken off around the world, and the best-dressed men were all seen in his angular and stylish creations. The Armani suit became an iconic fashion statement that exuded power and masculinity for its wearers.
Building on this success, the line split into two separate lines, Emporio and the popular consumer brand Collezione, which offers a more day to day line than its stablemate.
A core value of Giorgio Armani in recent years has been the idea of fashion with conscience, and he now works in such a way as to use sustainable products in his clothes and other items, and is widely known for only using "healthy" models to wear his clothes in fashion shows.
The Armani perfume lines are amongst the most successful products made by the company, and Armani fragrances are available for men and women in a range that offer something to suit all tastes. Although the fragrances are all unmistakable, and evoke the same boldness as his best clothing, there are softer, feminine perfumes alongside the powerful male colognes, and most Armani scents are available in both male and female varieties. The two fragrances together are designed to complement each other and link the wearers together for sensuality that is hard to match.
