There are few luxury brands that can claim the same exclusivity as Prada, and thanks to the timeless and elegant designs that the company has been producing since 1913, the label has long been established as a source of glamour for people all over the world who love the stark looks and elegance that have been a hallmark of Prada since the inception of the company.

Unlike many other luxury brands which moved into other areas from clothing, Prada began as a manufacturer of the finest leather goods and gained a reputation based on the quality and innovation that their designs incorporated. At the outset of the company, one of their most famous products was a walrus skin suitcase that remained a big seller even into the jet age when baggage restrictions became common.

Over time, Prada declined slightly, due to lower demand for their products, and increased competition from rival brands such as Louis Vuitton, and the many French design houses that introduced similar product lines. In the 1970s, the whole brand was overhauled with the arrival of a new director, Miuccia Prada, the fiercely ambitious great granddaughter of the original founder. She oversaw a major expansion in the number of products that Prada offered, taking the company into a number of new markets such as footwear, and casual bags.

The redevelopment of the brand from the 1980s and 1990s onwards has seen it invest heavily in many unique production techniques, and unlike many other fashion houses, has seen it make man made products into a central part of the range of clothing that are produced. Polyester and Nylon are widely used in order to produce very strong lines and bright colors throughout the designs. Stark lines and elegance have always been important to Prada, and although many of their designs appear at first to be simplistic and utilitarian, the devil is in the details, which are extremely subtle and far more flattering than many people initially realize.

The expansion of the Prada brand to take over lines like Fendi and Jil Sander has allowed to company to offer a wide range of products without compromising the purity of their vision, and recent forays into cosmetics and luxury home ware have been made in order to allow for the Prada to extend to its full potential.
