Although it is not one of the best-known designer labels among most people, Chopard has been producing some of the most desirable luxury items for nearly a century and a half. Amongst those in the know, Chopard watches are thought of as being some of the finest designer timepieces available, made all the more appealing thanks to their undeniable exclusivity.
The Chopard house began in 1860 when Louis Ulysee Chopard opened a watch-making workshop and set himself the task of beginning production of the finest watches possible. He applied the latest technology of the time to produce the most accurate chronometers available in the world at the time. Where Chopard differed from his contemporaries was the attention to detail and innovation that he applied to his work.
While it was the accuracy of his watches that first gained Chopard a reputation for quality, it was the beautiful and highly detailed designs that his customers came to want more, and over the years he gained a reputation for being one of the top watchmakers in Europe, and attracted the patronage of the wealthiest people from all over Europe.
For the next two generations, the Chopard line of watches continued to sell in limited numbers to people who knew their value, but in the 1970s, the company was sold by the last of the watch making Chopard line and taken over by Karl Sheufele. Scheufele saw the potential of the brand, and began to increase the range of products that the line offered, and pushed them to a much wider audience.
The company now produces a wider range of time pieces than ever before, with Chopard watches available for both men and women. Amongst the most popular models currently available, the Mille Miglia line for men is a sporty and stylish watch, while other ranges like Happy Diamonds and Happy Sport, and Haute Horlogerie ensure that there are plenty of different options available to suit pretty much all tastes.
While Chopard has subsequently expanded its range of products to offer a range of jewellery and even some spin off lines such as signature fragrances, its main business remains the production of some of the finest watches available anywhere in the world.
