The Escada label was founded by one of the most beautiful models in the world, and a leading businessman. How could a designer label that was born of such beauty and success ever fail?

The Escada label, which was named after an Irish thoroughbred horse, quickly became one of the leading fashion labels in the world upon its creation by the Swedish model Margaretha and her husband Wolfgang Ley.

She had learned all about design and fashion under the tutelage of the designer Jacque Fath, but the understanding of what made a design successful was something that she was born with.

By 1986, the company had grown to such a size that it became listed on the Stock exchange, and although Escada was now answerable to a larger circle of investors, it did not lose its cutting edge in either design or business, and continued to grow at a staggering rate.
