A rich and spicy blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and clove. Cinnamon has been used since antiquity for celebrations. At one time an incredibly expensive spice, cinnamon was used sparingly and highly treasured for its intoxicating smell. Eventually, cinnamon traveled the globe, with much of the trading and cultivation going on in Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean known for its rich spice trade throughout history. Cinnamon was also treasured by the early Arabian perfumers as an ingredient for blending fragrances with references to the spice dating back as early as the 9th Century AD. Today, cinnamon still represents decadent foods used in celebrations throughout the world, from Mexico to Asia.
