Since the Carven label was founded in France during the 1940s, it has sought to develop a range of beautiful clothes that are intended to promote femininity and give petite women the opportunity to wear clothing that flatters their shape and enhances their inner beauty.  The clothing produced by the label has always been designed to be as pretty as possible while also staying true to the original goals of the founder to be structured and comfortable.

Carmen de Tommasso began her career in design as an architect, and throughout her early career she developed a fascination with the concept of form and function, and over time this evolved into her interest in fashion and how architectural values could be applied to clothing.  At the age of 36, troubled by the abandonment of beauty in architecture that was enforced by the need to rebuild Europe as quickly and cheaply as possible in the wake of the Second World War, Madame de Tommasso left the world of architecture behind in order to embrace the world of fashion and launched the Carven label.

In the face of the post war austerity, the Carven designs were a breath of fresh air.  Unlike the buildings of the time that seemed to celebrate masculinity as architects simplified lines and built upwards, her designs celebrated femininity and used detail rather than the broader canvas in order to convey the meaning behind them.

Inevitably, as the popularity of her brand grew thanks to the quality of the clothes she produced, there was an increasing demand for other designs and products that could provide people with the same kind of values that her clothing could.

This demand was met with a range of perfumes that have gradually been designed by the company, and which have gained a reputation for providing wearers with the femininity that they can get from the range.  Carven fragrances are light and wearable, they provide a floral scent that is intended to enhance the delicacy of the wearer and make them feel as special and beautiful as they are.

Over the 62 years of the company’s existence, Carven have released a number of fragrances especially for women including classic Carven fragrance such as Ma Griffe, Eau Vive, and Guirlande.  These perfumes have also been supplemented with a number of male fragrances that are designed to complement the female fragrances and which offer an extremely masculine scent that has been developed solely as a counterpoint to the women’s version such as Vetiver Dry, and Cabaret, which is often sold as a twin pack for men and women.
