Geoffrey Beene was one of the leading American Fashion designers of the 20th century, and until his death in 2004, had a reputation for creating elegant and stylish clothes that appealed to women of all ages. Although his personal golden age at the cutting edge of fashion was in the middle of the century, when his clothes graced the catwalks of the world, and were the must have designs to be seen in on Oscar night, he retained a huge fan base right up until the end of his 40 year career in fashion, and was still sought after for bespoke designs by his long term audience.

Geoffrey Beene dressed some of the most beautiful and glamorous women in the world including Nancy Reagan, Glenn Close, and Faye Dunaway, and was well known as one of the leading US couturiers. Although he was a master of the bespoke dress, and his clothing was often a little outside the taste of the public, his ready to wear collections were, and indeed still are very desirable.

Amongst the highlights of his long career, being the first American to debut a collection in Milan was one of Geoffrey Beene’s personal favorites, and he won a number of awards including the Silver Slipper award for his creativity in fashion.

His clothes were theatrical yet also restrained, drawing on every day inspirations and twisting them into something unique. Amongst his most famous collections were Mafia for women - a range of highly structured pinstripe suits that predated the masculine fashion of the 1980s by 30 years, and his collections for men, which still inspire imitations to this day.

As with most other designers of his standing, Geoffrey Beene perfumes were released including a number of fragrances for both including Bowling Green cologne, and Eau de Green Cologne for men. Geoffrey Beene produced a number of women’s perfumes including Chance, and his signature Geoffrey Beene fragrance.

Since the death of its founder in 2004, the Geoffrey Beene label has been controlled by Phillips-Van Heusen. His perfumes are still best sellers, and the style and vision that informed his own designs are still held to by the latest generation of designers at the label.
